Srinagar Feb 24: All eyes are on government as the one month extension granted to Chairman JK Board of School Education (BOSE) will expire today. As per set norms, the incumbent chairman Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas will demit his office today.
As already reported, the Jammu and Kashmir government on February 5 extended the term of Chairman JKBOSE) Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas for one month, with effect from January 24 of 2025.
The order in this regard was issued by the Financial Commissioner School Education Department (SED) Shantmanu.
"In continuation to the government order number 55-JK (Edu) of 2023, dates February 23 of 2023, sanction is hereby accorded to the grant of extension in the term of Dr Parikshat Singh Manhas as Chairman JKBOSE and Director SCERT, for a further period of one month from the date of expiry of his previous term, January 24 of 2025," the government order reads.
The incumbent chairman Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas was appointed as the Chairman JKBOSE on January 25 of 2023 on a deputation basis for a period of two years.
As per the order, his appointment came into effect "from the date of the issuance of the notification of his appointment." As per set norms, the incumbent chairman demited his office on January 24 of 2025.
During the tenure of Prof. Parikshat Manhas, the JKBOSE remained in the eye of the storm over the mental trauma faced by the class 10th students who were denied their roll number slips by JKBOSE officials and barred them to appear in the annual exams.
However, the students were later allowed to sit in the exams due to the personal intervention of the education minister Sakina Itoo.
In the recent past, JK Board, during the tenure of Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, also invited ridicule for a copy-paste change in a Class 10 textbook titled "Disaster Management and Road Safety Education", the copy of which was also available on the official website of JKBOSE for reading by students for the current academic session.
The "blunder" brought the lackadaisical attitude of the BOSE's academic division to the fore.
Meanwhile, as the one month extension of Parikshat Singh Manhas expires today, the Search Committee constituted by the Jammu and Kashmir government to recommend the panel names for the appointment of Chairman JK Board of School Education (BOSE) and the Director Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has shortlisted the names of the candidates for interaction, after holding its first meeting earlier this month.
The Search Committee has shortlisted around 17 candidates who will be called for the interaction on February 27 of 2025.
An official said that till the search committee completes the process for appointment of new chairman JKBOSE, the government can assign the charge to any senior official as his additional assignment or the post will remain vacant till the new chairman JKBOSE assumes office.
"The selection process is going on at a fast pace so there are expectations that the new chairman JKBOSE will be appointed in the first week of March," the official said.
