Expresses concern over "harassment" of officers by MLAs to accommodate their workers in PMAY list
Muhammad Adnan
Baramulla, Feb 25: Former President Municipal Council Baramulla Touseef Raina on Tuesday said that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah must prioritize the dignity of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir alongside maintaining good relations with the Central Government.
Addressing media persons in Baramulla, Raina said that maintaining good relations with Centre was a positive sign for development but side by side, the CM should prioritise the issues of youth as well.
"Giving shawls and gifts, keeping relationships with the Centre is a good thing. These things will help in terms of development here. We agree with this. But you (CM) should have an agenda where he will talk about the employment, respect and dignity of the youth," Raina told reporters here.
He urged the Home Minister, Prime Minister, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to relax the verification rules considering the careers of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Our youth should not get punished for anything done by his grandfather or any relative. The passports of hundreds of youth are pending because of the present system of verifications wherein the youth are bearing the brunt of other's fault," Touseef Raina said.
Referring to the recent statement of Deputy chief minister J&K regarding the sand mafia, Touseef Raina said that the government should go into the seriousness of the issue.
"When we talk about the sand mafia, it does not survive without any political support," he said.
He urged the government to do a survey and identify whose relatives, friends are associated with this sand mafia and with whose support it is working.
"The government should come up with a legal process so that snd extraction and mining is done in a proper way," he said.
Raina further alleged that complaints were pouring in from various areas that some MLAs call these officers to their homes, humiliate them and misbehave with them to ensure that his workers are included in the list of PMAY beneficiaries.
"This is totally wrong. When I was President of the Municipal Council Baramulla, I saw a lot of people who wanted to build their homes. Those who were eligible under PMAY Urban from the Municipality, we tried to accommodate all genuine people," Touseef Raina said.
"But the MLA is harassing officers to get his workers accommodated," he said.
