Take care of our rights while utilising our services: JKTA General Secretary to Govt

Srinagar Jan 17:

General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association (JKTA) Hatim Qayoom on Friday asked the government to take care of the rights of the employees rendering their services in the government sector.

Talking to protestors on the sidelines of a press conference, the General Secretary JKTA said they decided to postpone the peaceful protest after the government invited them for negotiations.

"The employees have their duties but rights as well. When we are assigned duties then the government should take care of our rights as well," Hatim Qayoom said.

He said the 3 percent DA and 1 percent of HRA entitled to the employees was pending.

"It was due in June but we are yet to receive it. It is a big issue," Hatim Qayoom said.

He said that issues with regard to GP fund cases of employees were persistent in the department

"The government deducts GP Fund from the salary of the employees. This money belongs to the employees which he uses at time of emergency," Hatim Qayoom said.

He said the employees mostly apply for GP Fund withdrawal either at the time of daughter's marriage or for construction of house or in case of some serious ailments.

"But the problem is that the file remains pending for 3-4 months in the treasury. It is our own money, where does it go? Why don't we get our money on time? If this is our money, then we should get it within a couple of days," General Secretary JKTA said.

About the scheduled protest, Hatim Qayoom said they had decided to protest on Friday (January 17) but the administration called them for negotiations following which they decided to postpone the protest program.

"The Chief Secretary has given us time on Monday. If we get any positive response we will act accordingly," he said.

He said if the negotiations didn't work then they will announce their further program.
