JKReTTF submits memorandum to Edu minister, seeks restoration of OPS, replacement of cultural coordinators

Srinagar Jan 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-eTaleem Teachers Forum (JKReTTF) on Monday sought restoration of the old pension scheme besides seeking replacement of Cultural coordinators in offices.

The JKReTTF led by its president Khalid Rafeeq Bhat submitted a nine-point memorandum to the minister for education Sakina Masood and sought restoration of Old Pension Scheme saying that New Pension Scheme (NPS) has put government servants in a state of persistent anxiety, apprehension and scepticism.

"Dark and gloomy days look looming large over the post retirement lives of government officials, which consequently inhibits and impedes them from giving their best. OPS must be restored for the safety and safeguard of government officials during their old-age times," the memorandum reads, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Square.

The forum also advocated for the Transfer Policy for erstwhile Rehbar-i-Taleem Teachers saying that the ReT community continues to get suffocated in their schools for decades together, as they are yet to be brought in the ambit of transfer policy, like General line teachers.

"The department is not regularly conducting the DPCs due to which there is less carrier progression for the teacher community. The promotion quota for ZEO must be increased from 20% to 60% as Principals so that more master grade will get prompted to HM/ZEOs and subsequently teachers will get promoted as well," it reads.

The forum also stressed for inclusion of five year services saying that services rendered by ReT teachers during their first five years are yet to be counted in their service records.

The forum has also sought introduction of Smart Classrooms in all Primary and Middle schools to acquaint the students with digital pedagogical procedures.

"Teachers working in different capacities as cultural coordinators and resource persons should be rotated/changed periodically. Stagnation often breeds corruption and favoritism in the system, and consequently desecrates constitutional and democratic values," reads the memorandum.

It said that better workforce is in queue to give their best, but the prevalent traditional system is depriving opportunities to meritorious and more efficient people.

"Authorities at the helm must ensure democratic environment at grassroot levels to eradicate nepotism from the system," the forum urged the education minister.

JKReTTF also sought decentralization of transfer and deployment of teachers as per the prerogative of ZEOs and CEOs instead of making it a centralized process.

"One teacher one cadre has become inevitable to end a possible class war and a feeling of snobbery between teachers. Terms like GLT, 3rd Teachers, TG2, TG3, RRT and FAT have divided teachers on the basis of nomenclature. All the tags must be removed to pave the way for a single term as Teacher," the forum said.

The forum also demanded amnesty and one time relaxation to teachers, who have acquired higher educational qualifications during their service tenures.
