Srinagar, Nov 18: The National Institute of Technology
(NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday hosted the 5th edition of its TEDx conference under
the theme "Conclusions that Create Change.”
The event
was organised by the Department of Training and Placements (T&P) and
brought together eminent speakers from across the country who shared their
transformative life journeys with students.
The
conference was graced by Incharge Director Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, Registrar
Prof. Atikur Rehman, Head T&P Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Dr. Sheikh Shahid
Saleem, faculty members and other dignitaries.
In her
special message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohie Naaz said events like TEDx
offer students valuable opportunities for learning, personal growth, and
exposure to diverse ideas. She also appreciated the efforts of the T&P
Department for successfully organising the event.
Head,
Department of Training and Placement, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Mir said motivation
plays a crucial role in igniting self-determination and self-belief among
students.
“It has
taken years of consistent effort for NIT Srinagar to build a culture of hosting
such events, and TEDx has now become an integral part of our academic
calendar,” he said.
Prof Mir
said that TEDx brings together speakers, professionals, and experts from
different backgrounds and disciplines. Such interactions inspire students, help
them realise their potential, and fuel their determination to pursue their
dreams,” he added.
This year’s
TEDx NIT Srinagar conference featured a remarkable lineup of visionaries and
changemakers who embody the spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading.’
Distinguished
speakers included Mr Jagdeep Singh (JKAS), professional MMA fighter Mr. Owais
Yaqoob, acclaimed actor Mr. Mir Sarwar, filmmaker Dr. Sonali Gupta, global
business leader and investor Shri Khalid Wani, veteran actor Mr. Mushtaaque Ali
Ahmad Khan, and well-known social worker Mr. Javed Ahmad.
Their
diverse journeys reflected resilience, creativity, and leadership across
governance, sports, cinema, entrepreneurship, and community service.
The event
also hosted young climate activist Miss Licypriya, KVM Dr. Sumithra
Prasad—Founder of the DORAI Foundation, and celebrated singer Miss Mehmeet
Syed.
The speakers
delivered insightful and impactful talks that resonated deeply with students
and highlighted the evolving aspirations of Kashmir and the global community.
Registrar
Prof. Atikur Rehman praised the organisers for creating an environment where students
can interact with achievers from diverse fields. He said programs like TEDx
help broaden students’ understanding of real-world challenges and the different
paths individuals take to create meaningful impact.
“Such
platforms expose our youth to fresh perspectives and new possibilities. They
encourage students to think differently, innovate fearlessly, and approach
their academic and personal goals with renewed confidence,” he said.
Prof. Rehman
added that NIT Srinagar is committed to nurturing a culture of creativity,
curiosity and critical thinking. He emphasised that the institute will continue
to support initiatives aimed at enhancing student exposure, leadership and
communication skills.
“Our goal is
to ensure that every student receives opportunities that strengthen their
character and prepare them for global challenges. TEDx is one such initiative
that aligns perfectly with our vision of holistic growth and academic
excellence,” he added.
Earlier, Ms.
Hiral from Fortinet delivered an engaging session on the rapidly evolving
landscape of cybersecurity, highlighting how digital threats are becoming more
sophisticated with each passing day.
She
emphasized the growing importance of proactive security frameworks and the need
for organizations to invest in advanced defence mechanisms to safeguard
critical infrastructure.
“Cybersecurity
is no longer a niche field but a core component of every industry, and
encouraged students at NIT Srinagar to explore the vast opportunities emerging
in this domain,” she added.
Mr Umar
Majid, Coordinator, and Mr Syed Hussain, Supervisor for TEDx NIT Srinagar from
the Department of Training and Placement, were felicitated by the Director,
Registrar, and Head of Department for their exemplary contribution to the
successful conduct of the event.
Cultural
performer Noor Mohammad captivated the audience with a powerful Kashmiri folk
fusion act that highlighted the Valley’s rich artistic heritage. His
performance, blending traditional rhythms with contemporary storytelling, set an
inspiring tone for the conference and received a standing ovation from students
and guests.
TEDxNITSrinagar
is an independently organised TED event associated with the globally renowned
TED organisation. Building on TED’s mission to spread ideas, the TEDx platform
enables local communities to curate and present thought-provoking talks.
