Jammu, Nov. 29: The Border Security Force (BSF) is on high alert and stands fully prepared to safeguard the country, stated Shashank Anand, Inspector General (IG) of the BSF's Jammu division.
Speaking at an event commemorating the force's 60th anniversary, IG Anand as per Kashmir Convener underscored the BSF's pivotal role in past wars, border security, and counter-terrorism operations. He specifically cited the force's response to the Pahalgam attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor as key examples of its operational readiness.
The officer as per this newspaper outlined the significant challenges the force has confronted on both its eastern and western fronts this year.
On the Eastern Front, IG Anand pointed to the political shift in Bangladesh as a period of considerable challenge along the 4,000-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border.
"It was a very sensitive period, and there was an apprehension of large-scale infiltration," he said.
He however said the BSF effectively prevented this infiltration, thus ensuring the nation's security.
"Not only did we stop these attempts, but we also repatriated those who had previously entered illegally back to their country," he said.
On the Western Front, addressing the aftermath of the April 26 Pahalgam attack, IG Anand described Operation Sindoor as India's "seminal response" to neutralize terrorism at its source in Pakistan. He stated that Pakistan "misinterpreted this defensive action as an act of aggression and, in effect, initiated an undeclared war against India."
"In that conflict, the BSF was deployed on the frontline from Kashmir to Gujarat," he said.
He said that BSF units inflicted significant damage on the enemy through cross-border firing in the Jammu sector and successfully thwarted all their nefarious plans to harm our citizens.
