No room for confusion as class 10, 12 board exams unchanged under NEP-2020: Director NCERT

Srinagar Jan 22: The Director National Council of Educational Research and Trainings (NCERT) Dinesh Saklani has dispelled the confusion saying that conduct of class 10th and 12th annual Board examination will remain unchanged under the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020.

He was speaking during a three-day National Workshop on NEP-2020 implementation in Odisha regarding  curriculum reforms.

"There is a provision for the conduct of Board examinations for class 10 and class 12 students under NEP. The policy explicitly states that these examinations will proceed without any alteration," Director NCERT Dinesh Saklani said.

He further said that for students in Class 5 and Class 8, examinations have been designed to prepare the students for the transition into secondary education.

"A second chance will be available for those who do not perform satisfactorily on these exams. This reflects a considerate approach, allowing students an opportunity to improve and ready themselves for further academic challenges," he said.

Director NCERT said there was no need for any confusion regarding the board examinations, as it is "clearly mentioned in the policy."

According to the NCERT Director, there is 5+3+3+4 structure and two phases in secondary where there is 9 and 10 in the first and 12th in the second phase.
