Kupwara, Jan 22: The vacant position of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) in the Sogam education zone of Kupwara district has taken a toll on the overall functioning of the office.
A group of teachers said the teaching as well as non-teaching employees of the Sogam zone were grappling with immense hardships as the education zone continues to remain headless.
The teachers said the post got vacant following the superannuation of former ZEO Sogam.
"The situation has led to a halt in the disbursement of salaries for the December month which has caused financial distress to many employees," an employee said.
Besides the delay in disbursement of salary, the vacant position of ZEO has disrupted administrative functions including delivery of public services. "Several files are gathering dust in the ZEO office for want of approval," the employees said.
The teachers and the non-teaching staff of Zone Sogam have urged the authorities to immediately fill the vacant post of ZEO to ensure smooth functioning of the office in the far off area.
“The delay in appointing a new ZEO is not just affecting salaries but also disrupting the educational administration in the zone,” Zonal President JKReTTF Syed Lateef Nazki said.
The stakeholders have urged the higher ups in the department to fill the vacant post of ZEO Sogam as early as possible.
