Jammu, Apr 11: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday warned that the drug Smugglers' assets will be seized while ringleaders prosecuted, and punishment will be delivered swiftly.
He was speaking while during the flag-off of Padyatra while joining the public representatives, senior officials and thousands of citizens in the walkathon from MA Stadium to Parade Ground, marking the beginning of 100-days intensive campaign under Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.
He launched the historic mass movement for a “Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir” from the venue.
“The administration will confiscate all property, revoke licenses, passports, Aadhaar, and freeze bank accounts of all those involved. This crackdown against drug smugglers will echo through generations,” he said.
He said new SoP has been issued against the drug traffickers.
"Under this SOP, we have taken a crucial decision to revoke passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar numbers, and arms licenses of smugglers involved in drug trafficking. If they are absconding, a Look Out Circular will be issued immediately," he said.
He said that additionally, their movable and immovable properties will be attached under the NDPS Act, bank accounts frozen, and financial investigation will be launched.
The Lieutenant Governor gave a clarion call to make Jammu Kashmir free from the scourge of drugs.
“We have given voice to a resolve that will reach every village, town, city, home, and heartbeat in Union Territory, fulfilling the pledge of a drug-free region.
Next three months are pivotal, with campaign advancing in six clear phases- Awareness intensive drives, youth focused events, community engagement, strict enforcement, rehabilitation and evaluation. We will move forward with the whole of government approach to rid J&K of drug menace,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the eradication of drug addiction is a collective responsibility that rests upon us all.
“We pledge resolutely that the administration will not let any youth, family, or dream fall into the dark abyss of addiction. I firmly believe that drug addiction statistics show mere percentages and case files but behind each lies a vivid story, a family's struggle and agony," he said.
He said that drug-free J&K campaign demands not just sympathy but collective action because it is not an individual plight but a collective crisis, not one family's tragedy but a challenge to us all.
"Together, with unwavering resolve, we will fight and defeat the scourge of drug abuse,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor said that drug abuse is among J&K's gravest challenges and we stand firm in our commitment to confront drug abuse and emerge victorious.
“Bound by shared purpose, we will rise against drug abuse and claim the victory that awaits us. The three-month long people's movement across J&K will make every person grasp the issue, turning information into responsibility through public participation,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor vowed decisive and uncompromising action against drug smugglers to free the J&K UT from the grip of the drug menace.
“Those who destroy society will face the full and uncompromising weight of the law. Our neighbor is using cross-border smuggling to poison our communities and undermine our nation's future. Every officer carries one obligation: this must stop. The full force of the law is now directed at smugglers. Their networks will be dismantled without delay,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
On 2nd April, we had notified the Jammu and Kashmir Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Counselling and Rehabilitation Centres Rules, 2026, ensuring every center is genuine, dedicated to patients affected by addiction, equipped with all required human resources, and under continuous monitoring. Action will be taken against centers operating without support staff or in violation of the rules,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor directed the senior officers for swift action on complaints and strengthening of grassroots intelligence with the help of panchayats, mohalla committees, chowkidars, lambardars and ward surveillance committees to identify and punish every culprit.
“Our strength in Drug-Free J&K Campaign lies in collective action. When departments unite with shared purpose, we prevail.
Since early 2021 we have moved beyond planning to decisive action for Drug-Free J&K. We are successfully implementing initiatives that have reached previously untouched communities, engaged youth in schools, and expanded rehabilitation services. No individual faces this battle alone; the administration stands firmly committed,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor called upon youth, social workers, community leaders, teachers, women and athletes to participate in large numbers since they are the face, force and future of this campaign.
“The next three months will sow seeds of lasting change. Let anti-drug sports tournaments brim with fervor, debates steel youth resolve, quizzes embed awareness. Map drug-affected areas accurately; unity marches, Padyatra inspire neighborhoods; marathons from panchayats to cities declare that J&K will never bow to drugs,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that from village chaupals to district headquarters, every event must pulse with mass movement spirit, followed by reviews because feedback will be our compass to refine, strategize and act stronger.
“April 11 is not a ceremonial start but the first step of a transformative march. Let us build a movement so broad, so resolute, and so deeply people-driven that it lays the foundation of a drug-free J&K,” he further said.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor administered the “Anti-Drug Pledge” to the citizens and unveiled the official campaign mascot. Awareness Video, singing and cultural performances by renowned artists echoed the message of a drug-free Jammu Kashmir.
The Padyatra was warmly received by business organizations, civil society members, and various stakeholders along the route.
Srinagar, Jan 8: Contractual faculty members working in government degree colleges of Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department (HED) have expressed strong resentment over what they term as a glaring disparity in salaries, demanding revision of their pay in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms and regularisation of their services. The faculty, many of whom hold PhDs and are qualified through NET, SET and JRF, said they have been denied UGC-recommended pay scales despite discharging academic responsibilities equivalent to their regular counterparts. āHundreds of highly qualified scholars have been pushed into silent suffering. For years, we have been assured that our pay revision is under consideration, but nothing has materialised so far,ā said Dr Ishfaq Gowhar, a contractual faculty member. Earlier, Director Colleges J&K had acknowledged the legitimacy of the facultyās demand, stating that while the issue was genuine, its implementation involved significant financial implications due to the large number of contractual appointments. āWe are aware that they deserve salary enhancement, but the number of contractual faculty is huge and it has financial implications,ā he earlier said. Dr Gowhar pointed out that contractual lecturers, who form the backbone of the higher education system, continue to work on a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 28,000, which has remained unchanged for nearly a decade. āThe irony is that a Class IV employee with a Class 10 qualification draws a salary exceeding Rs 50,000, while doctorate-holding teachers engaged in teaching, mentoring and academic research are paid a fraction of that,ā he said. He added that institutions such as SKUAST-K, University of Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have implemented revised UGC pay scales, but the Higher Education Department has failed to extend similar treatment to its contractual faculty. Dr Gowhar said the demand for āequal work, equal payā gets prominently featured in election campaigns, raising hopes among contractual teachers. āPromises were made and slogans echoed during elections, but once the process ended, our voices were reduced to silence. Even meeting officials now feels impossible,ā he said. He said contractual faculty were not seeking privileges but dignity, fairness and recognition for their service. The faculty appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Education Minister to intervene and take concrete steps towards addressing their long-pending demands. āThis issue is not merely about salaries. It is about survival, justice and dignity in the classrooms of Jammu and Kashmir,ā he said.

Srinagar, Jan 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will declare the result of class 10th and 12th examination on January 14 of, 2026 (Wednesday), minister for education Sakina Itoo said on Monday. Minister for education Sakina Itoo said the government has decided to declare the result of both the classes-10th and 12th on the same day. "We understand that students have been waiting for the results. So we decided that result of both the classes will be declared on Wednesday (January 16 of 2926)," Sakina Itoo said. She said the meeting of the Result Declaration Committee (RDC) will be convened by the Secretary JKBOE along with the members-Director School Education (DSE) Kashmir and Jammu division besides the joint secretaries as well. "We will give the administrative approval to the result instead of getting approved by the chairman," she said. The announcement comes amid the delay in appointment of chairman JKBOSE as the position is lying vacant for the last one year. "After declaration of the results, we will also appoint the permanent chairman for JKBOSE as well," education minister said. An official from JKBOSE said the class 1oth result will be declared on Wednesday morning followed by the declaration of result of class 12th students in late afternoon on the same day. As per the official figures, 94783 students- 68804 from Kashmir and 25,224 students from winter zone areas of Jammu division besides 660 students from Kargil and 95 from Leh district registered for the class 10th JKBOSE examination this year. Also, the examination for class 11th and 12th students was scheduled from November 19 and November 8 of 2025 respectively. Approximately, 81622 students ā 64001 from Jammu and 17621 from winter zone areas of Jammu have registered for class 11th examination while 70117 studentsā56423 from Kashmir and 13694 from winter zone areas of Jammu have registered for class 12th examination.
Suhail Khan Baramulla, Jan 6: A young aerospace engineer from Sopore in north Kashmirās Baramulla district is proving that dedication and ambition can propel one to global heights. Munaf-ul-Raquib who holds a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, has gained international recognition for his research on black holes and cosmology. Munaf-ul-Raquib revealed that his paper on the thermodynamics of black holes was recently published in the International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR). āAbout a year ago, I conducted research on the gravity of black holes and cosmology, which has now been published in IJSR,ā he said. He said that since his research was published in the international journal, he has been receiving opportunities from various countries to participate in research dialogues. Raquib added that in the coming months he is scheduled to participate in international conferences in Paris on April 16 and later in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Sopore aerospace engineer noted that he is also participating in various conferences across different countries. Speaking about his research, Munaf-ul-Raquib addressed a fundamental paradox in astrophysics: how black holes can appear to violate thermodynamic laws, particularly concerning entropy.āIf we observe a black hole, it seems to contradict thermodynamic principles,ā he said. Using the frameworks of Anti-de Sitter space (AdS) and Conformal Field Theory (CFT), Raqeebās research proposes a theoretical model that reconciles black hole mechanics with thermodynamics. āIn this paper, I have explained how a black hole can function without violating thermodynamic laws,ā he said. He described the achievement as both personal and symbolic. āIt is a proud moment for me to represent my state, especially Sopore, on an international platform,ā he said. Raqeeb shared that Astrophysics was his childhood dream, and his grandfather encouraged me immensely. "After my grandfather passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic, my parents continued to champion my aspirations. My parents left no stone unturned in helping me pursue my dreams,ā he said. He said that his academic path included taking the JEE and later the AME CET entrance exams, through which he secured a seat in aerospace engineering at the Nasik Research Centre. āMy parents not only supported me morally but also created an environment where I could pursue my dreams freely,ā he said. He emphasized the role of family in nurturing talent. āJust as my parents supported me, it is the responsibility of all parents to help their children follow their dreams.ā āYoung people should avoid wrong practices. Jammu, Apr 6: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo Monday launched a mega plantation drive across Jammu and Kashmir from SRML Higher Secondary School (HSS) to instill the spirit of environmental protection and green development among students. MLAs Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi and Showkat Hussain Ganie besides MD ICDS Sajad Hussain Ganai, Director School Education Jammu Naseem Javid Choudhary, Director Social Welfare Jammu Ranjeet Singh, Director Health Jammu, Principal SRML HSS Jammu, CEO Jammu, Principals and Headmasters of other HSSs and HSs of Jammu district, large number of teachers and students were also present on the occasion. Director Social Welfare Kashmir, Director Colleges, J&K, Director School Education Kashmir, Director Health Kashmir, Chief Education Officers of all districts other than Jammu, Principals and Headmasters of various HSSs and HSs along with students and faculty also participated in the plantation drive virtually. The drive was organised collectively by School Education, Higher Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education departments. She added that around 2.50 lakh tree saplings are being planted across Jammu and Kashmir in Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Anganwadi centres, Healthcare facilities and other places. Minister for education underlined that J&K has always been known for its natural beauty, valleys, forests, rivers and green pastures but that beauty is under silent threat. āClimate change, rising temperatures, harmed nature are realities, we can no longer ignore. Truth is simple, if we do not act now, we risk compromising the future of our childrenā, she lamented. The minister said that in order to secure our future and future of coming generations, this Green Jammu and Kashmir initiative has been launched. āGreen Jammu and Kashmir initiative is a clear vision to transform every school, every health institution, into a green, vibrant and life-supporting space. A tree is not just a tree, it is clean air for the patient, shade for a student and hope for the future," she said. Sakina Itoo said that students were not just participants in this mission but its ambassadors. Giving slogan of one student -one tree, the Minister said let every student make a promise and pledge one student-one tree. "Let every tree you plant grow with you, as a symbol of your responsibility and your love for this land," she said. The minister also called upon the teachers that the schools should be examples of protecting nature. Highlighting that health is deeply connected to the nature, the Minister also spoke about the role of doctors and healthcare professionals to environmental sustainability. āGreener air, greener surroundings, peaceful space contribute directly to healing. Let our hospitals not only treat illness, but also promote wellness through natureā, she said. The minister also underlined the role of Social Welfare department, adding that their reach at the grassroots is unmatched and they are the backbone of this movement. āIt is not about how many young trees we plant in a day. It is about how many trees survive, grow and become a part of our livesā, Sakeena Itoo said. The minister highlighted that we need to move from plantation to preservation, from campaign to commitment, from effort to ownership. āEvery tree grown will have a protector. Every institution will have a responsibility and every district will have a mission to complete," she said. The minister on the occasion, asked all participants, to promise with themselves and pledge to make every school greener, every hospital healthier, every season a protector of nature. āTogether let us not just plant trees, let us plant hope," she said. On the sidelines of the programme, Sakeena Itoo also distributed sports kits among various government schools to encourage physical fitness and promote sporting culture among youth. The kits included equipment for multiple disciplines aimed at strengthening extracurricular engagement and identifying sporting talent at an early stage. In another major boost to educational infrastructure, the Minister also handed over technical equipment like desktops and other stuff to several schools to enhance digital learning and skill-based education. The initiative is expected to improve classroom experiences and enable students to adapt to modern technological advancements. The minister reiterated that empowering girls through education remains a top priority of the government. 'Thousands died Under your watch, don't talk security now' Srinagar, Mar 31: A stormy session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone deliver a blistering intervention, calling out what he described as selective outrage and institutional inconsistency on the question of security. Opening with a direct address to the Chair, Lone while addressing to Speaker saying, "Sir, when we talk about the PSA or police verification, you say this House does not have the powerā¦ so why are you allowing them to talk so much on security?". He exposed the contradiction between restricting debate on core legal instruments while permitting prolonged political theatre on security arrangements. Despite repeated interruptions, he pressed on, asserting that those who deny the Assembly's jurisdiction cannot simultaneously exploit it for optics. Drawing from personal experience, Lone said, "I have the highest level of security, yet I don't even have a house guard at my homeā¦ but the way they are projecting it is misleading." He advised aggrieved members to raise their concerns with the Union Home Ministry rather than disrupt the proceedings of the House. The exchange grew more confrontational as he called out perceived hypocrisy, saying, "You are living in a Cabinet Minister's house and come here to lecture othersā¦ if you have self-respect, leave that house."
