Srinagar, Jan 8: The Union Home Ministry is set to convene a meeting of the high-powered committee it constituted to deliberate on issues of Ladakh. In an official communication, the MHA has informed Ladakh’s Chief Secretary that the next meeting of the high-powered committee-comprising representatives of the Union Home Ministry, the Ladakh administration, and leaders of Ladakh-will be convened in the last part of January. The Chief Secretary of Ladakh has been asked to consult the members of the high-powered committee regarding their convenient dates and inform the MHA accordingly. The MHA has decided to hold the meeting at a time when leaders of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA)-the two conglomerates spearheading the agitation for statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region-have expressed resentment over the inordinate delay in convening the panel’s meeting. Talks between Ladakh’s leadership and the Government of India were last held on October 22, 2025, in New Delhi. The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) had submitted a 29-page draft proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeking statehood, Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh, and amnesty for people arrested after the September 24 protests. Apart from four deaths, nearly 100 others including police and paramilitary personnel were injured on September 24 when protesters went on a rampage, vandalising buildings and setting a BJP office and a police vehicle on fire. The clashes erupted over demands for statehood and constitutional safeguards on the 15th day of a hunger strike led by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been booked under the NSA and lodged in Jodhpur jail. KS News DeskNew Delhi, Dec 11: The Indian Army contingent deployed in Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu has set up and is operating a fully functional field hospital in one of the worst flood-affected regions, delivering critical medical support to thousands of citizens. The journey itself demanded exceptional resolve. After landing in Colombo, the team undertook an arduous 18-hour move to the disaster zone, navigating washed-out routes and widespread disruption.Upon arrival, they were confronted with a bare parking lot available for establishing the hospital, interrupted electricity, inconsistent water supply and severely impaired communication networks, conditions that would have paralysed any conventional medical response.Yet, the contingent, in coordination with Local Authorities in Sri Lanka, transformed challenges into opportunities through professionalism, innovation and seamless teamwork. The engineers and medical teams worked through the night to raise fully functional hospital shelters, integrating portable gensets to ensure uninterrupted power for critical care, surgeries and life-saving interventions. They coordinated with district authorities to secure regular water supply and established a robust communication centre, restoring real-time connectivity with India, logistics channels and local agencies, enabling rapid reinforcement and smooth operations. To accelerate setup and enhance patient care, the contingent leveraged new-age technologies.Aerial surveys using surveillance drones enabled optimised hospital layout planning in the flooded terrain. HVAC-equipped medical tents allowed swift establishment of a sterile, fully operational Operation Theatre, while rapid blood and sample movement was facilitated through purpose-designed holistic tools that significantly reduced diagnostic turnaround time.In just a few days, the field hospital has grown into a comprehensive, multi-specialty medical node. The team established Operation Theatre capabilities, X-ray and laboratory facilities, dental care and multiple dedicated OPDs, including surgery, orthopaedics, dental and family medicine. These facilities have enabled the contingent to provide medical assistance to over 5,000 patients, offering not just treatment but also reassurance and compassion to families devastated by the floods. The Indian Army Medical Task Force comprises 85 personnel, including specialist doctors, surgeons, nursing staff, engineers, signalers and logistics teams, working round the clock in close coordination with local administration and NGOs.Their mandate extends beyond medical relief. The signals detachment restored a damaged optical fibre cable supporting a key mobile tower, bringing vital communication services back to the affected populace, a major morale booster for local communities. The contingent is also supplying potable water through portable treatment systems and providing a range of humanitarian assistance wherever gaps are identified.Through determination, professionalism and empathy, the Indian Army contingent has become a pillar of support for Sri Lankan citizens during one of their most difficult moments.Under Operation Sagar Bandhu, Indias commitment to its neighbourhood is once again reflected not only in capability, but in compassion, reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship between the two nations.

KS News DeskNew Delhi/Mumbai, Dec 5 (PTI): IndiGo cancelled over 1,000 flights on Friday and said operations are expected to normalise in the next 10 days, as the countrys largest airline received flight duty norms relaxation from watchdog DGCA, which will probe the disruptions that have impacted thousands of passengers for four straight days.As a large number of flights got cancelled and delayed, chaos continued at major airports across the country, with frustrated passengers scrambling for updates and searching for their baggage. Many passengers vented out their anger on social media, and airfares also sailed northwards for many routes. The operations of IndiGo, which controls about two-thirds of the countrys domestic traffic and generally operates around 2,300 flights daily, failed to plan properly for the new flight duty norms that provide for increased rest periods and lesser night landings. With air travel chaos continuing for the fourth consecutive day, DGCA on Friday provided temporary exemption from the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms, including on night landings and definition of night time, to the airline, which had sought the relaxations to normalise its operations. The airline was required to implement the FDTL norms from November 1.Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Friday said various operational measures, including keeping new flight duty norms in abeyance, will help address the IndiGo flight disruptions, and complete restoration of services is expected in next three days. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has constituted a four-member panel to ascertain the reasons that have led to the disruptions and also said that prima facie, the situation indicates deficiencies in internal oversight, operational preparedness, and compliance planning, warranting an independent examination. The FDTL relaxations have been provided for only IndiGos A320 family planes, which account for the majority of its fleet, till February 10, 2026, officials said. This exemption has been granted solely to facilitate operational stabilisation and in no way amounts to dilution of safety requirements. During this period, DGCA would review after every fifteen days, the action taken by IndiGo to address the situation including hiring of adequate crew to ensure FDTL compliance, the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.Earlier in the day, the regulator eased the FDTL norm, saying leaves can substitute weekly rest periods for pilots. These moves mean that more pilots will be available for operations and that will help in stabilising the situation. On a day when IndiGo cancelled more than 1,000 flights, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Friday said the situation is anticipated to normalise between December 10-15.In his first video message since the disruptions began, Elbers apologised for the major inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the disruptions.Regrettably, earlier measures of the last few days have proven not to be enough. So we decided today for a reboot of all our systems and schedules, resulting in the highest number of cancellations so far, but imperative for progressive improvements starting tomorrow onwards. With these actions, we expect tomorrow to have cancellations below 1,000. The support of DGCA, in providing specific FDTL implementation relief, is of great help, Elbers said. The issue of IndiGo flight disruptions was also raised in the Parliament.Pilots body Airlines Pilots Association (ALPA) India on Friday took strong objection to safety regulator DGCAs selective and unsafe relief to domestic carrier IndiGo, saying the decision sets a dangerous precedent. The civil aviation ministry has taken urgent and proactive measures to address the ongoing disruption in flight schedules, particularly those of Indigo airlines, Naidu said in a statement. The Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) orders of the DGCA have been placed in abeyance with immediate effect. Without compromising on air safety, this decision has been taken solely in the interest of passengers, especially senior citizens, students, patients, and others who rely on timely air travel for essential needs, he said.According to him, the operational measures have been initiated to ensure that normal airline services are restored at the earliest.Based on the immediate implementation of these directives, we expect that flight schedules will begin to stabilise and return to normal by tomorrow. We anticipate that complete restoration of services will be achieved within the next three days, the minister said. The DGCA also issued an appeal to all the pilots and pilots associations to extend full cooperation amid the flight disruptions, and in view of the large-scale traffic demand due to winter holidays and marriage season. In a rare move, IndiGo, which said it is rebooting the systems and schedules, on Friday suspended operations of all departing domestic flights from the Delhi airport, which is also its key hub, till Friday midnight.

KS News DeskIslamabad, December 2 (ANI): Pakistan is currently experiencing one of the fastest-growing epidemics of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, with new infections increasing by 200% over the past 15 years, from 16,000 in 2010 to 48,000 in 2024, as reported by Dawn. This information was shared with participants of a walk organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNAIDS in observance of World AIDS Day.While HIV primarily affected high-risk populations in the past, it is now affecting children, spouses, and the broader community, largely due to unsafe blood management and injection practices, deficiencies in infection prevention and control, inadequate HIV testing during antenatal care, unprotected sexual activities, stigma, and restricted access to HIV services.Under the theme Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response, WHO and UNAIDS collaborated with Pakistans Ministry of Health to commemorate the day.The discrimination, stigma, and this disease cannot be addressed by us alone. It must involve the communities and the health regulatory authorities. We need collective efforts to eliminate unsafe practices in injections and blood transfusions. Education is essential. We also need to engage our clinicians. Together, we can reach our objectives. We must provide children and adults in Pakistan with the healthy, HIV-free future they deserve, stated Ayesha Isani, Director General of the Health Ministry, according to the Dawn report. It is estimated that 350,000 individuals are living with HIV in Pakistan, but nearly 80% of those affected are unaware of their status. Children are increasingly impacted, with new cases among those aged 0-14 rising from 530 in 2010 to 1,800 in 2023.Over the past decade, Pakistan has increased the number of individuals living with HIV who receive antiretroviral therapy (ART) eightfold, from approximately 6,500 in 2013 to 55,500 in 2024thanks to collaborative efforts by the government, UN entities, and partners. The number of antiretroviral therapy centres has also expanded from 13 in 2010 to 95 in 2025. Despite this progress, only about 21% of people living with HIV knew their status in 2024; 16% of these individuals were on treatment, and 7% had achieved viral load suppression. In 2024, there were over 1,100 reported AIDS-related fatalities, as highlighted by Dawn. The rise in new cases and recent outbreaks that have particularly impacted childrenthreatening their futures as well as that of Pakistan, serve as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to enhance collaborative efforts and mobilise both domestic and international resources to eradicate AIDS as a public health threat. WHO will support Pakistan and its partners in safeguarding current and future generations from HIV, ensuring that no one is left behind, remarked Dr Luo Dapeng, WHO Representative in Pakistan, as emphasised in the Dawn report. In Pakistan, children have unfortunately been exposed to HIV due to unsafe injections and blood transfusions during recent outbreaks in locations such as Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Pathan Colony (2025), Taunsa (2024), Mirpur Khas (2024), Jacobabad, and Shikarpur (2023), as well as Larkana (2019). In many of these outbreaks, more than 80% of the identified cases involved children, according to the Dawn report.Only 14% of pregnant women in need of treatment to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV receive it, leaving thousands of children vulnerable.Among children aged 0-14 living with HIV, only 38% are receiving treatment, as revealed by the Dawn report.

Suhail Khan Baramulla, Jan 6: A young aerospace engineer from Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is proving that dedication and ambition can propel one to global heights. Munaf-ul-Raquib who holds a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, has gained international recognition for his research on black holes and cosmology. Munaf-ul-Raquib revealed that his paper on the thermodynamics of black holes was recently published in the International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR). “About a year ago, I conducted research on the gravity of black holes and cosmology, which has now been published in IJSR,” he said. He said that since his research was published in the international journal, he has been receiving opportunities from various countries to participate in research dialogues. Raquib added that in the coming months he is scheduled to participate in international conferences in Paris on April 16 and later in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Sopore aerospace engineer noted that he is also participating in various conferences across different countries. Speaking about his research, Munaf-ul-Raquib addressed a fundamental paradox in astrophysics: how black holes can appear to violate thermodynamic laws, particularly concerning entropy.“If we observe a black hole, it seems to contradict thermodynamic principles,” he said. Using the frameworks of Anti-de Sitter space (AdS) and Conformal Field Theory (CFT), Raqeeb’s research proposes a theoretical model that reconciles black hole mechanics with thermodynamics. “In this paper, I have explained how a black hole can function without violating thermodynamic laws,” he said. He described the achievement as both personal and symbolic. “It is a proud moment for me to represent my state, especially Sopore, on an international platform,” he said. Raqeeb shared that Astrophysics was his childhood dream, and his grandfather encouraged me immensely. "After my grandfather passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic, my parents continued to champion my aspirations. My parents left no stone unturned in helping me pursue my dreams,” he said. He said that his academic path included taking the JEE and later the AME CET entrance exams, through which he secured a seat in aerospace engineering at the Nasik Research Centre. “My parents not only supported me morally but also created an environment where I could pursue my dreams freely,” he said. He emphasized the role of family in nurturing talent. “Just as my parents supported me, it is the responsibility of all parents to help their children follow their dreams.” “Young people should avoid wrong practices. They must dream of a beautiful tomorrow but work hard today to make their parents proud,” he further added.

The move comes in wake of the inspections conducted last year by the DCDC of KU in various B.Ed colleges where most of the students were found absent. An official said that there were complaints about the poor attendance of the students in B.Ed colleges. "The students do not attend their B.Ed classes regularly which defeats the purpose of the course," the official said. Earlier, DCDC of KU earlier barred the B.Ed students to appear in teh semester exams for falling short of attendance. The decision was taken in wake of the surprise inspection conducted by Dean College Development Council (DCDC) in various B.Ed colleges of Kashmir in June-July month of 2025 and several students were found absent from the classes. Following this, the students were directed to attend supplementary classes to complete the recommended attendance for appearing in their exams.
