In a statement issued here, Inam Un Nabi said MP Er Rashid had taken up the matter with Union Railway Minister, highlighting that the present alignment affects residential localities including Sherwani Colony, Jetty Khawajabagh and Fatehpora besides adjoining residential colonies and may lead to displacement of families and disruption of community infrastructure. Kupwara, Feb 22: For the young men and women of Tangdhar, ambition has always had to wait for the weather to clear and the ceasefire to hold. Wedged against the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Karnah sector, the town is defined by its borders—geographical, political, and psychological. This week, a small delegation attempted to redraw the last of those lines. A team from Young Indians (Yi), the youth wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), traveled to this frontier outpost to scout for what the military calls “hearts and minds” but what the industry calls “human capital.” Facilitated by the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, the visit represented a rare intersection between the corporate world and a conflict zone. The setting was a modest government conference hall. On one side sat local entrepreneurs, students from Government Degree College Tangdhar, and district officials—Assistant Commissioner Revenue Mumtaz, BDO Muddasir, and Tehsildar Ameen Bhat. On the other were men in blazers who had flown in from the cities, armed with PowerPoint potential and market linkages. The agenda was simple, yet for this valley, revolutionary: How does a village overlooking a militarized border build a business? The answer, the delegates suggested, lies in the very geography that has held it back. The delegation explored models for border tourism, where visitors could walk through history along the LoC. They discussed homestays, where a tourist might wake up to noon chai with a view of the peaks that define the frontier. Cottage industries, they argued, could find a market if the supply chain were de-clogged. “This isn’t just a meeting; it’s a message,” a YI member said. "These kids see the fence every day. We want them to see a future beyond it.” Yi has committed to a sustained program of mentorship and hand-holding, a promise to walk with the local entrepreneurs beyond the initial handshake. For the administration, it was a validation of ground-level work. For the army, it was a soft-power win. But for the youth in the room, it was perhaps the first time they saw the mainstream economy as something that could exist on their side of the mountains. Peerzada Waseem, a local who also met the delegation. “It was truly a moment of happiness for the people of Tangdhar, especially for the youth, who have been waiting for years for the green light for border tourism, which had been suspended," he said. Waseem said the dreams they had seen years ago, when border tourism was first promoted, were cut short after Operation Sindoor. "The youngsters had just started to see their businesses thrive, as tourism here was boosted and tourists from across the country were coming, giving a push to the local economy. But with this visit, we are hopeful that once again we will host tourists and earn our livelihoods," he said. Mohsin Khan, a student at GDC Tangdhar, said they were used to see the Army for security. "But today, we are grateful to see them as hosts for development. They brought the country to our doorstep," he said. “It felt like a bridge was built today." For a long time, the youth felt disconnected from the rest of the country’s progress. "But seeing the Confederation of Indian Industry come all the way here tells us that Viksit Bharat includes us too," he said. Arshid Ahmad, a local, said they have always opened our homes to guests with a cup of salt tea. "Now, the Young Indians delegation is telling us that this hospitality can become our livelihood. We are ready to learn how to turn our traditions into a profession," he said. Notably, the road to Tangdhar is long, often blocked by snow or shut by shelling. But this week, a few travelers made it through, carrying not supplies, but possibilities.

The proposed meeting seeks to deliberate on the participation of incarcerated Doda MLA Mehraj Malik in the forthcoming Assembly session by passing a resolution urging the Lieutenant Governor to ensure his presence in the House. The MLA Langate also strongly condemned recent attacks on Kashmiris living and working in different parts of the country. He questioned the silence of the Lieutenant Governor and urged him to speak up on these incidents and to take up the matter with Governors, Chief Ministers, the Union Home Secretary and the Union Home Minister to ensure the safety and protection of Kashmiris across India. While discussing legislative initiatives, Sheikh Khurshid said he has brought a resolution seeking citizenship and legal status for women and children who returned from Pak and settled in Jammu and Kashmir under the Government’s Rehabilitation Policy. He noted that despite residing in the Union Territory for many years, many of these families remain without citizenship or legal recognition, leading to denial of basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment opportunities and identity documents. The resolution urges both the J&K Government and the Government of India to grant citizenship or appropriate legal status, issue valid domicile and identity documents, and ensure dignity, security and constitutional safeguards for these individuals. Another resolution highlighted by the MLA concerns the termination of government employees in Jammu and Kashmir without issuance of show-cause notices or providing them an opportunity to defend themselves. He said this would help ensure cheaper electricity, strengthen power infrastructure, enhance revenue generation and provide relief to electricity consumers in the Union Territory. He appreciated the concern expressed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, but raised serious questions over the continued silence of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. “Why is the LG silent? He has never uttered a single word on any such attack. When any citizen of Jammu and Kashmir is beaten and humiliated outside the UT, the head of the administration cannot look away,” Sheikh Khursheed said. He alleged that the administration shows excessive harshness at home while remaining mute on attacks against Kashmiris elsewhere. “You slap PSA on MLAs, bulldoze and blast houses, terminate employees, silence voices, and yet remain silent when our people are attacked outside. This selective approach is deeply troubling,” he said. He said the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was the custodian of the dignity and safety of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "It was his clear duty to take up such grave incidents firmly with the Union Government and the concerned state governments," he said. He further said that silence only emboldens perpetrators. Expressing happiness over the recognition, Prof Shauq said it was a moment of great joy to see his name among those who have truly made a difference in society. “I have received many awards and honours in the past, but the Padma Shri is given to very few individuals who have excelled in different fields of life. Being counted among them is a matter of immense pride,” he said. He said that he was informed early in the morning over phone and that the officials were well aware of his literary work and books. “I never wrote for awards or recognition. I simply accepted whatever came my way,” he added. Prof Shauq has authored dozens of books in English and Kashmiri, including works on poetry, history, dictionaries and grammars. He has also received several international awards for his poetic contributions. “This honour holds a special place as his name now stands alongside legendary literary figures such as Akhtar Mohiuddin and Rehman Rahi, who were earlier conferred with the Padma Shri,” he said. With academic background in science and English, Prof Shauq devoted over five decades to Kashmiri language and literature. He served as a professor at the University of Kashmir for more than three decades, teaching Kashmiri literature and guiding students and research scholars. “If my work helps students and researchers, that itself is a great achievement for me,” he said. He highlighted the importance of documenting indigenous knowledge, noting that he frequently receives queries from across the country and abroad about Kashmiri names of plants, flowers and insects. “Languages are shaped by such knowledge. Suhail Khan Baramulla, Jan 6: A young aerospace engineer from Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is proving that dedication and ambition can propel one to global heights. Munaf-ul-Raquib who holds a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, has gained international recognition for his research on black holes and cosmology. Munaf-ul-Raquib revealed that his paper on the thermodynamics of black holes was recently published in the International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR). “About a year ago, I conducted research on the gravity of black holes and cosmology, which has now been published in IJSR,” he said. He said that since his research was published in the international journal, he has been receiving opportunities from various countries to participate in research dialogues. Raquib added that in the coming months he is scheduled to participate in international conferences in Paris on April 16 and later in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Sopore aerospace engineer noted that he is also participating in various conferences across different countries. Speaking about his research, Munaf-ul-Raquib addressed a fundamental paradox in astrophysics: how black holes can appear to violate thermodynamic laws, particularly concerning entropy.“If we observe a black hole, it seems to contradict thermodynamic principles,” he said. Using the frameworks of Anti-de Sitter space (AdS) and Conformal Field Theory (CFT), Raqeeb’s research proposes a theoretical model that reconciles black hole mechanics with thermodynamics. “In this paper, I have explained how a black hole can function without violating thermodynamic laws,” he said. He described the achievement as both personal and symbolic. “It is a proud moment for me to represent my state, especially Sopore, on an international platform,” he said. 'Results likely to get delayed in absence of Chairman' Jammu, Jan 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Wednesday said the result of the class 10th examinations will be declared soon after the appointment of the Chairman of the Board. The statement comes amid the uncertainty about the declaration of the results by JKBOSE. In an official handout issued here, JKBOSE has advised students not to pay heed to fake links and websites announcing declaration of class 10 results. "Result of class 10th will be declared within few days soon after the appointment of new Chairman," the statement reads. The JKBOSE has stated that the results of annual examination of class 10 of Kashmir valley and winter zone areas of Jammu Division are almost ready. "But its approval by Result Declaration Committee headed by BOSE Chairman is a pre- requisite before its declaration. Srinagar, Jan 8: Contractual faculty members working in government degree colleges of Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department (HED) have expressed strong resentment over what they term as a glaring disparity in salaries, demanding revision of their pay in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms and regularisation of their services. The faculty, many of whom hold PhDs and are qualified through NET, SET and JRF, said they have been denied UGC-recommended pay scales despite discharging academic responsibilities equivalent to their regular counterparts. “Hundreds of highly qualified scholars have been pushed into silent suffering. For years, we have been assured that our pay revision is under consideration, but nothing has materialised so far,” said Dr Ishfaq Gowhar, a contractual faculty member. Earlier, Director Colleges J&K had acknowledged the legitimacy of the faculty’s demand, stating that while the issue was genuine, its implementation involved significant financial implications due to the large number of contractual appointments. “We are aware that they deserve salary enhancement, but the number of contractual faculty is huge and it has financial implications,” he earlier said. Dr Gowhar pointed out that contractual lecturers, who form the backbone of the higher education system, continue to work on a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 28,000, which has remained unchanged for nearly a decade. “The irony is that a Class IV employee with a Class 10 qualification draws a salary exceeding Rs 50,000, while doctorate-holding teachers engaged in teaching, mentoring and academic research are paid a fraction of that,” he said. He added that institutions such as SKUAST-K, University of Kashmir and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have implemented revised UGC pay scales, but the Higher Education Department has failed to extend similar treatment to its contractual faculty. Dr Gowhar said the demand for “equal work, equal pay” gets prominently featured in election campaigns, raising hopes among contractual teachers. “Promises were made and slogans echoed during elections, but once the process ended, our voices were reduced to silence. Even meeting officials now feels impossible,” he said. He said contractual faculty were not seeking privileges but dignity, fairness and recognition for their service. The faculty appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Education Minister to intervene and take concrete steps towards addressing their long-pending demands. “This issue is not merely about salaries. It is about survival, justice and dignity in the classrooms of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Srinagar, Jan 17: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Saturday strongly condemned PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti’s statement suggesting that if religious places are to be “profiled”, the process should start with temples and Hindu priests, instead of mosques and Imams. Inam Un Nabi said AIP was categorically against profiling of any religious place, irrespective of faith or community and such statements only deepen mistrust and polarisation in society. “Let it be Masjids and Imaams or temples and priests, profiling of religious institutions is unacceptable. AIP rejects it completely. Had the issue involved only temples or priests, AIP would have shown the same resentment and protest as we do for Masjids and Imaams,” he said. The AIP spokesperson said faith is a matter of personal conscience and religious belief and it should not be dragged into a culture of surveillance or administrative interference. “We do not want policing of faith. The role of the administration is to ensure peace and law and order, not to monitor religious identity or religious spaces,” Inam Un Nabi added. He appealed to all political parties to act responsibly and avoid statements that pit one community against another, stressing that Kashmir has a long history of communal harmony which must be protected. “AIP stands for dignity, equality and justice for all. We will oppose any attempt that targets places of worship, whichever religion it belongs to,” he said.
