Srinagar, Feb 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Employees Coordination Committee (JKECC) has sought special holidays on Eid and timing relaxation for employees in the month of Ramadan.
In this regard, President JKECC
Shah Fayaz who is also the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Association
(JKTA) has submitted a representation to the J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj
Sinha.
The JKECC in its
representation has sought relaxation for employees as is in vogue for Telangana
Government employees.
"The employees in
Jammu and Kashmir be allowed to leave office one hour earlier during the holy
month of Ramadhan to facilitate their religious observances, including Iftar preparations
and Taraweeh prayers," the representation reads.
It further reads that two-day
special holidays be granted for employees on Eid-ul-Fitr. "Arfa (a day before Eidul- Fitr) be declared
a special holiday to allow employees adequate time for Eid preparations,
alongside the existing holiday on the day of Eid itself," it reads.
The JKECC has further sought
four-day special holidays for Eid-ul-Adha urging the J&K LG to consider the
religious significance of the festival.
"It is requested that
three days be designated as Eid holidays, as per the Islamic perspective,
wherein Eid-ul-Adha celebrations extend for two and a half days. Additionally,
Arfa Day should also be declared a holiday as it is crucial for preparation and
observance," it reads.
The employees' association
has also sought special leaves for Jammu-based employees working in Kashmir
Division.
"Employees of Jammu
region posted in Kashmir division face immense difficulties in traveling back
to their hometowns for Eid celebrations. It is therefore requested that special
leaves be granted to such employees during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul- Adha to
enable them to celebrate these festivals with their families," the representation
reads.
The employees' association has said that such relaxation will go a long way in fostering an inclusive and accommodating work environment for employees in J&K UT.
"We sincerely hope
that the demands will be considered with a sympathetic view," it reads.
