Srinagar, Nov 30: In a significant development, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday mentioned about the the Geographical Indication (GI) tag granted to Sulai Honey of Ramban district and Bhaderwah Rajma of Jammu and Kashmir.
The two products got a recognition during a special radio programme featuring PM's Mann Ki Baat.
PM Modi termed it a major achievement for the region that has brought these traditional products national and international recognition.
The GI tag has significantly increased their brand value and opened up new export opportunities.
Experts believe that this recognition will not only protect the authenticity of these products but also help boost the local economy.
With growing demand in national and global markets, the development is expected to enhance the income of local farmers and producers, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the region.
Sulai Honey, along with Bhaderwah Rajmash, was officially granted the GI tag on 30 August 2023.
More than six hundred people are related with beekeeping trade in Ramban district.
