Ceaseless erosion of institutional integrity of ECI matter of grace concern: Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi, Jan 25: President Indian National Congress and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday said that the "ceaseless erosion" of institutional integrity of Election Commission of India (ECI) was a matter of grace concern.

He took to his micro blogging website X and said that even as people celebrate National Voter’s day, the ceaseless erosion of the institutional integrity of the Election Commission of India, in the last ten years was a matter of grave national concern. 

"Our Election Commission of India and our Parliamentary Democracy, despite widespread doubts, over the decades, turned out to be impartial, independent and ideal to emulate globally," he wrote on X

"The realisation of Universal Adult Suffrage, extending to the grassroots levels of Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies, embodies the vision of our founders," he further said in a post on X.

He however said the complacency in upholding democratic processes can inadvertently pave the way for authoritarianism. 

"Therefore, safeguarding the independence of our institutions is essential to preserve our Democracy and uphold the Constitutional principles that underpin it," he said.
